(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Bibliography, Book Collecting, Rare Books, Reference Sets).
Manuel du Librairie et De L'Amateur de Livres, by Jacques-Charles Brunet.
Published 1842, Paris by Silvestre.
8 volumes. Each c. 700-1,200 pages. Text in French. With the scarcer supplemental volumes.
A key and essential reference tool for any and all people who deal in or collect rare books. A monumental work of staggering proportions, detailed listings with basic collation information given to countless thousands of booksprinted prior to c. 1840, often with various editions issued. Priceless for comparison purposes, collation, just the presence of any book within Brunet speaks to it's desirability and rarity.
Set was rebound long ago in institutional cloth bindings, gilt title lettering.
Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition.
Bindings gently age worn, mostly light signs of handling and time but nothing offensive or severe, book remains overall attractive as an object.
Paper is gently toned, internally still clean, tight, sound internally.
The set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in overall nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws which may be present seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail showing how this set survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books, maps and printed ephemera of all types and genres. Flaws seen and/ or described have been taken into account.
