(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Americana, Atlases, New England, Massachusetts, Middlesex County).
Atlas of Middlesex County Massachusetts.
Published 1889, Boston by G.H. Walker & Co.
292 pages. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout with 136 detailed city & township maps and plans. Endless detailed maps showing property owners names, lot lines and outline building shapes, all with original hand color.
A scarce atlas, not to be confused with the smaller, earlier, more common 1875 county atlas by Beers.
Monumental oversize antiquarian 1/2 leather binding, gilt title lettering, embossed ruled covers.
Atlas is physically old and shows some clear signs of handling and time. Spine perished/ lacking, covers detached, a few loose/ detached map pages with some edge damage/ short edge tears at front and rear at atlas, most of atlas text block/ maps remain sewn, tight, sound as issued. Virtually all maps remains clean and presentable, any flaws mostly minor/ typical and widely scattered.
Binding gently age worn but still appealing.
Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally book and maps remain mostly clean, tight and sound.
Still attractive on the shelf.
Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this very scarce atlas as it survives.
We often over-describe any flaws that many sellers would not even bother to mention since most people would overlook them as minor and unworthy of comment. Many people tell us the books they receive from us are nicer in person than it appears on the screen. We want you to be clear about what you are buying, so we take clear photos and try to describe it clearly.
Book Measures c. 18" H x 14 3/4" W.
