(Old Books, Leather Books, 19th Century Books, French Revolution, Napoleon, Napoleonic Wars, Waterloo).

The Life of Napoleon Buonaparte, Emperor of the French, With a Preliminary View of the French Revolution, by Sir Walter Scott.
Published 1827, Edinburgh by Ballantyne and Co for Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, & Green.
9 volumes (complete), each c. 350 pages. Text in English. First Edition.

Attractive early 19th century antiquarian diced calf leather bindings, raised bands, gilt compartment decorations, & title lettering, marbled edges and end papers.

Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time.

Bindings well age worn but still appealing. Leather and joints cracked (some split), scuffed and rubbed but still supple, some covers loosened but still well attached by binding cords, spine ends chipped, set remains overall attractive as an object.

Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, early owner's name on title pages, internally book remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A set which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new.

Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this scarce set as it survives. Surviving sets in early bindings such as this are very uncommon.

We often over-describe any flaws that many sellers would not even bother to mention since most people would overlook them as minor and unworthy of comment. Many people tell us the books they receive from us are nicer in person than it appears on the screen. We want you to be clear about what you are buying, so we take clear photos and try to describe it clearly.
