Rare early 19th century juvenile chapbook.
The New England Primer Improved, or, an easy and pleasant guide to the Art of Reading to which is added the Assembly's Catechism.
1820, Hartford, CT by George Goodwin & Son. Publishers plain paper wrappers, complete. 62 pp. + wrappers. Inside rear cover is publishers short juvenile inventory list.
The woodcuts including a large frontis of children brought before Jesus and Burning of Mr. John Rogers.
Scarce in any condition. Well worn, original binding still sound. Toning and various scattered small spots and stains as always. Small loss to top edge of p. 11 with slight loss of woodcut.
For any small paper juvenile of this era to survive is a small miracle, it is one if the few areas of collecting where defective should often be considered as entirely acceptable.
