New England: A Handbook for Travellers. A Guide to the Chief Cities and Popular Resorts of New England, and to its Scenery and Historic Attractions: With the Western and Northern Borders from New York to Quebec.
Published 1874, Boston by James R. Osgood and Company.
431, 24 pages. Text in English. Contains 6 folding maps and 11 folding city plans. The index seems to call for two pocket maps, but the single large pocket map present has both maps printed on it.
Publisher's cloth binding, gilt title lettering, embossed bands & ruled covers.
Item is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, cloth darkened and speckled from handling wear, remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate toning and scattered age spotting, some folding maps fine and clean, others with tears, a couple of the largest folding maps in pieces due to delicate nature of the thin paper, internally still relatively well preserved, tight and sound for a well used guide book of this era.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this antique item survives.
