Our Countrymen: or Brief Memoirs of Eminent Americans, by Benson J. Lossing.
Published 1855, Philadelphia by Lippincott, Grambo & Co.
407 pages. Text in English. Illustrated throughout with 103 wood engraved portraits.
A scarce mid-19th century book.
Publisher's decorative cloth binding, gilt title lettering, gilt pictorial cover decorations.
Book is approaching 170 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, thin spots of cloth loss at spine ends, corner tips a bit worn down, remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently toned, light scattered age spotting, one signature slightly "sprung", internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
