The Pan-American Exposition: Book of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Ry.
Published 1901, Buffalo, New York by The Matthews-Northrup Co.
38 pages plus wrappers. Text in English.
Beautifully illustrated throughout, a wonderful early 20th century World Exposition tourist pocket map and souvenir. Much nicer than typical for this era, a superior "art printing" production with an art nouveau aesthetic throughout.
Double page Expo Grounds color map centerfold, four further nice maps, double page panoramic birds-eye view across the Fair, numerous small bw photos, etc.
Publisher's pictorial art nouveau color lithographed paper wrappers.
This rare promotional brochure is 120 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Various tiny edge splits, some pages loose, shaken, old tape repair down one fold line, rear cover lower corner chipped away, double page regional map of the RR lines separated down middle, evidence of earlier minor repair attempts, etc. An item with some condition issues, but which easily rises above them to remain just wonderful visually. Rare in any condition.
Remains overall very attractive as an original ephemeral period Fair pocket map and photo souvenir.
Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered age spotting, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
