Historical Collections of the State of Pennsylvania, Containing a Copious Selection of the Most Interesting Facts, Traditions, Biographical Sketches, Anecdotes, etc. Relating to Its History and Antiquities, both General and Local, with Topographical Descriptions of Every County and All the Larger Towns in the State. by Sherman Day.

Published 1843, Philadelphia by George W. Gorton.
708 pages. Text in English. Illustrated with 165 wood engravings, numerous  being(nicely detailed) full page, dozens of charming early views of towns, cities and landscapes, a couple maps, etc. Quite early American made views of many smaller locations which all display a near-folk art charm about them unique to the era and place.

Period publishers decorative full leather binding, elaborate gilt spine decorations & lettering (including American eagle), stamp embossed and ruled in blind covers with central gilt pictorial stamp (diff. eagle motif), marbled edges. With a mid-19th century engraved hand colored state map affixed to front pastedown. Scarce gift binding still in a most pleasing condition.

Binding overall remains clean, tight, and sound, much more attractive than typical for this type of binding in this era or this title. Small scuff spots, small chipping and splitting to leather at spine head, still structurally sound example, leather remains supple.

Interior contents display a pleasing age patina, largely free of age spotting.

Book remains well preserved and attractive on the shelf. It displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, the age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
