United States Japan Expedition: Observations on the Zodiacal Light from April 2nd 1853 to April 22 1855, Made On Board the United States Steam Frigate Mississippi During the Late Cruise in the Eastern Seas and Her Voyage Homeward. With Conclusions from the Data Thus Obtained, by Rev. George Jones.
Published 1856, Washington, D.C. by Beverley Tucker.
705 pages. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout with over 300 hundred full page b&w plates of the night sky and star constellation formations.

Period full leather binding, raised bands, complete loss of leather on top half of spine, revealing print sheet music beneath, gilt title lettering, hand lettered title cover.

Volume 3 of a large work. This volume is complete unto itself and stands alone.

Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Ex-libris example with stamp to title page and book plate to front paste down.

Binding well age worn but still appealing, leather dried, scuffed and rubbed, front joint cracked, cover held loosely by binding cords, remains overall very attractive as an object.

Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally book remains mostly clean, tight and sound.

Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this book as it survives.

We often over-describe any flaws that many sellers would not even bother to mention since most people would overlook them as minor and unworthy of comment. Many people tell us the books they receive from us are nicer in person than it appears on the screen. We want you to be clear about what you are buying, so we take clear photos and try to describe it clearly.
