Reflexions Philosophiques sur le Systeme de la Nature, by M. Holland.
Published 1773, Londres (London- French pirate ed.?).

Philosophy on the Systems of Nature. 2 volumes, still in the printers 18th century interim unlettered waste-paper wrappers (prior to owner chosen or publisher commissioned leather binding), both text blocks with full original wide deckled edges, entirely uncut, the deckled edges all beautifully uniformly age toned in a manner utterly unique to the set.

288, 309 pages, complete in 2 vol. Text in French, woodcut ornaments.

18th century printers work shop original scrap paper covers (intended to be discarded prior to binding), a fascinating survival, almost directly from the binder's shop as produced into today.

Clean, fresh set, looking like it has sat mostly unread and un-browsed for almost 250 years. Lovely condition*.

Internally fresh and nearly as just printed, of interest for the unique patina as well as the scarce and fragile temporary early paper bindings. Relatively few similar paired temporary bindings of this era survive today.

Set is physically almost two hundred and fifty years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Bindings inevitably gently age rubbed/ worn, slight normal minor natural edge curling and toning where exposed, both remain overall fresh, tight, sewn as issued; a wonderful set if you're able to appreciate the inherent rarity of this type of set.

Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered age spotting, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.

Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this unique and likely one of a kind philosophy set survives.

*Condition- Rather, think beautiful "antiquarian condition", which is a related but quite different thing. Condition is often uniquely rooted within an era, or by comparison to those other surviving examples which are still available. Often even the most common seeming antique items can be unbelievably difficult (scarce) to find in fine condition when you are specifically looking for one. Try finding multiple examples of any specific 18th century book some time, you might be surprised how few there actually are and how different condition is on any you do locate.
