The Pocket Album and Literary Scrap Book.
Published 1832, London by Joseph Robins.
420 pages. Text in English. Engraved frontis & half portrait. Illustrated throughout with 48 engraved plates [37 steel, 11 wood], collated complete.
Includes a remarkable image of a devil, plus many other well executed views, portraits and scenes, including a bear with bees, London bridges and architectural city views, etc.
Period 1/2 leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands & title lettering, marbled paper over boards covers.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Binding is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding is gently age worn, leather and gilt well rubbed but still supple, joints slightly scuffed, remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently toned as typical, mostly very clean internally, still fresh, text block square, well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
