Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Juvenile Books, Illustrated Books, Children's Stories, Kate Greenaway).
The Queen of the Pirate Isle, by Bret Harte. Illustrated by Kate Greenaway.
Published 1887, Boston & New York by Houghton, Mifflin and Company.
58 pages. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout in color.
First American Edition (precedes U.K. First).
Publisher's cloth binding, gilt title lettering, pictorial cover decorations, all edges gilt.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition. Book is ever so slightly "cocked", but because it is so thin it hardly registers visually.
Binding gently age worn, mostly light or inoffensive signs of handling and time but nothing severe or unsightly, trivial minor fraying to spine head (looks worse in pic than it does in person), book remains overall attractive as an object. Nicer than typical for this 19th century juvenile classic.
Paper is gently toned, still clean, tight, sound internally.
Still attractive on the shelf. The book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in overall nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws which may be present seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail showing how this book survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books, maps and printed ephemera of all types and genres. Flaws seen and/ or described have been taken into account.
