(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Americana, Travel Guides, Books with Maps, Railroads, Steam Lines).
The Rand-McNally Official Guide and Hand Book of the Railway and Steam Navigation Lines of the United States, Dominion of Canada, and Mexico, ed. C.H. Stoneback.
Published 1898, Chicago by Rand McNally.
576 pages. Text in English. Abundant period advertising. Many (dozens) of small intext maps throughout, series of six oblong large folding strip maps at rear (some splits along some fold lines).
Publisher's pictorial paper wrappers. A rare survival of an item with a limited shelf life, intended to be superseded on a regular basis.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding age worn, some corner chipping, folding maps at rear with various splits along fold lines, generally clean but not perfect condition, remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is heavily uniformly age toned (due to wood pulp paper used), internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
