Published 1867, London by John Murray.
479 pages. Text in English. Volume one of two.

Ex-libris from the Redwood Library in Newport Rhode Island with their book plate to front paste down.

Period 1/2 leather binding, raised bands, gilt title lettering, old institutional paper spine label, marbled covers & end papers.

Volume 1 of a 2 volume set. Being a series of letters, this volume is complete unto itself.

Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.

Binding gently age worn, leather rubbed but still supple, joints slightly scuffed, old paper call number to top of spine, remains overall attractive as an object.

Text block paper is gently toned, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.

Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
