The Rise of the Dutch Republic: A History by John Lothrop Motley.
Published 1869, London by Bickers & Son.
3 volumes. 544, 651, 568 pages. Text in English.

Period 1/2 leather bindings, slightly raised & gilt bands, gilt compartment decorations & title lettering, marbled covers edges, and end papers.

Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition.

Bindings gently age worn, leather rubbed but still supple, joints slightly scuffed with small flake spots, all covers strongly attached, set remains overall attractive as an object.

Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered age spotting, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.

Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
