A set of two (2) hagiographical works in Italian from the mid 19th century.

The first contains a Vita (Life) of Antonio Baldinucci, an Italian Jesuit missionary who died in the early 18th century. Baldinucci was beatified the year the Vita was published, but has not been canonized.

The second volume contains a Vita of Jan Sarkander, a Bohemian Jesuit who was involved in the Catholic Reformation of the late 16th century. Tortured to death by Protestant rebels during the opening years of the 30 Years War, he was later canonized in 1995.

Both works were published in the same year as their subject was beatified, and are likely part of the evidence gathered in preparation for canonization.

Published 1859, Rome, by Bernardo Morini.
86 pages. Beautiful period full leather, gilt decorated and lettered, marbled endpapers, steel engraved frontis.

Both sound and tight, light age wear, minor faults, overall well preserved and handsome books.

Smallest book measures:  11 1/2" H X 8 5/8" W.
