(Old Books, 18th Century Books, Leather Books, Religion, Christianity, Sermons, Morale).

Sermons De Morale, Preches Devant Le Roy, by M. Flechier.
Published 1750, Paris Guillaume Cavelier.
2 volumes, each c. 500 pages. Text in French. Ornamental small woodcut devices as chapter headings and tail pieces throughout.

Attractive antiquarian full leather binding, raised bands, board edges with running gilt patterning.

Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Uncommon/ scarce little mid-18th century 2 volume set in any condition.

Bindings age worn but still appealing, spine leather dried, flaked and chipped, title labels perished, chips at ends, etc.- leather and joints scuffed and split, cover leather displays nice age patina, all covers remain well and firmly attached. A typical mid-18th century "nearly-indestructible" French 8vo. book which has withstood over 270 years of handling due to the binder's sewing craftsman. A type of sturdy binding rather specific to this era and location/ country in European book-binding history.

Text block paper is uniformly age toned as typical, nice paper and typography, internally each book remains clean, tight and sound. A set which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new.

Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this set as it survives.

We often over-describe any flaws that many sellers would not even bother to mention since most people would overlook them as minor and unworthy of comment. Many people tell us the books they receive from us are nicer in person than they appears on the screen. We want you to be clear about what you are buying, so we take numerous photos and try to describe it openly and honestly.
