(Old Books, Early 20th Century Books, Americana, Travel Guides, Tourism, Midwest, Minnesota, St. Paul, Illustrated Book).
Visitor's Guide to St. Paul.
Published c. 1908-10, St. Paul, Minnesota by McGill Warner Co. for the Commercial Club St. Paul. Press of McGill Warner.
Folding pictorial tourist brochure, aimed at visitors to the city early in the 20th century. Photographically illustrated throughout, many key sights highlighted.
Publisher's pictorial color and photo paper wrappers, oblong multi-folding into panels format.
Booklet is physically old and shows some clear signs of handling and time.
Binding gently rubbed and age worn, various splitting along some old (now delicate) fold lines, small triangle chip along bottom edge of front cover, remains overall very attractive as a fragile and scarce ephemeral item. Easy to imagine a miniscule survival rate for a transitory tourist brochure like this. As a general rule, the less important an old paper item seemed at the time, the less likely it was to ever be saved. Even today. this entire category of publishing is still considered mostly recycle material within months.
Still attractive on the desk. Booklet displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, the inoffensive and unavoidable age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
