Nice decorative ornate gilt pictorial bindings of the early 19th century.
Period full European leather bindings, smooth spines, gilt title lettering on contrasting red leather labels, gilt pictorial compartment decorations, gilt ruled covers, old institutional number circles on spine bases, all edges and turn ins gilt, marbled end papers.
Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.
Bindings gently age worn, leather rubbed but still supple, surface scratches to covers with some thin areas of surface loss, joints slightly scuffed, all covers strong and well attached, each remains overall attractive as objects.
Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered age spotting, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
