Texas America & the West Indies 1845 Long w/ 2 folding maps rare book
Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints(Old Books, 19th Century Books, Americana, Books with Maps, West Indies, Caribbean, European Colonies, Geography).
America and the West Indies, Geographically Described by Professor Long, George Richardson Porter, & George Tucker.
Published 1845, London by Charles Knight & Co.
648 pages. Text in English. 2 large folding SDUK maps at front, first detached, both present well but have fold line tears and small age flaws from handling. Frontis map with old edge tape repairs, hole near fold line intersections, etc.
Has a short detailed section devoted to Texas, which is shown in a Republic shape on the first map.
Scarce book in any condition. Sabin calls for 3 maps but this seems to be perhaps a mistake since the only other example we found currently for sale online has one and there is no evidence we see of removal of a map from this volume. Still, sold as described with 2 maps.
Publisher's cloth binding, gilt title lettering, embossed ruled covers.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding well age worn, book opens to title page and map, mostly light signs of handling and time but nothing offensive or severe, book remains overall attractive as an object.
Paper is gently toned, internally still clean, tight, sound internally.
Still attractive on the shelf. The book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in overall nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws which may be present seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail showing how this book survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books, maps and printed ephemera of all types and genres. Flaws seen and/ or described have been taken into account.
