The Friend: A Religious and Literary Journal, ed. by Robert Smith.
Published 1833, Philadelphia by Adam Waldie.
416 pages. Text in English. Index at front. Volume begins with Oct. 13, 1832 issue and continues on weekly until Oct. 5, 1833, so one consecutive year of issues. Appears to be consecutive and uninterrupted, but not collated page by page. Each issue is 8 pp.
Attractive antiquarian 1/2 leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands, gilt title lettering on contrasting black leather label, marbled covers.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time.
Binding gently age worn but still appealing, leather and joints slightly rubbed but still supple, remains overall very attractive as an object.
Text block paper is well age toned as typical, moderate to heavy old damp staining, internally book remains mostly tight and sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a unique age patina, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this rare book as it survives.
We often over-describe any flaws that many sellers would not even bother to mention since most people would overlook them as minor and unworthy of comment. Many people tell us the books they receive from us are nicer in person than it appears on the screen. We want you to be clear about what you are buying, so we take many photos and try to describe it clearly.
Book Measures c. 11 1/4" H x 9 1/2" W.
