Washington Irving Complete Works 1864 lovely 22 volume leather set w/ plates

Published 1864, New York by G.P. Putnam.
22 volumes, each c. 475 pages. Text in English. Engraved frontis and half title in each volume protected by original tissue guards.

Attractive antiquarian 1/2 leather bindings, slightly raised & gilt bands, gilt title lettering on contrasting black leather labels, gilt compartment decorations, marbled covers, edges, & end papers.

Set is physically old and shows some mostly light signs of handling and time. 

Bindings gently rubbed and age worn but still clean and appealing, leather and joints slightly rubbed but still supple, set remains overall very attractive as an object. One or two volumes have the slightest touch of minor chipping to the head, scarcely worthy of mention since it is all but unnoticeable when viewing the set.

Text block paper is gently uniformly age toned as typical, internally set remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A book which has been taken care of but may/does not look like new.

Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
