William McKinley World's Fair Bas-Relief Souvenir 1901 Cuba Big Brother Cigarros
Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints(Americana, William McKinley, Memorial Day, Bas-Relief, Cuba Big Brother Cigarros).
Memorial Day Souvenir of the Cuba Big Brother Cigarros.
Published c. 1901-02 (? approx.), St. Louis, Missouri by Woodward & Tiernan & Co.
A wonderful and unique early 20th century bas-relief of President McKinley, likely issued shortly after his assassination in Sept. 1901 at the St. Louis World's Fair. May well have been issued for sale or display at the Fair itself after his death.
Detailed high relief, slight touch of surface soiling, remains overall remarkably clean and fresh looking, a very nice survival of an inherently fragile item raised well in relief off the surface and thus readily susceptible to easy dings, scrapes, etc.- none of which appear on this example. Scarce thus, perhaps rare.
Item is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.
Remains overall extremely attractive as a very fragile object of this era mixing smoking tobacco and presidents for consumer promotional purposes.
Item displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how it survives.
