School Atlas to Accompany Woodbridge's Rudiments Geography. Atlas on a New Plan, by William Woodridge.
5th edition published c. 1823, Hartford, Connecticut by Oliver D. Cooke and Sons.
nine maps, complete. Poor condition, old repairs, soiled, etc.
Clearly a pair of geography books which has been heavily consulted over the years and is remarkable for being together for so long. It is rare in our experience to encounter both an atlas and the accompanying much smaller separate text volume together after almost 200 years.
Text volume is period full leather binding, later spine cloth with crude hand written title on spine & cover.
Atlas is original lettered and ornamented paper wrappers, early spine cloth applied by owner. Atlas is complete with nine double page maps, most with original hand color. Final map affixed to rear paste-down.
Bindings both very well age worn., the text volume with two pages that are defective. Atlas is dog earred, most maps age darkened, spotted, soiled and splitting along center fold, several with early owner thread repairs.
