The World and Its Inhabitants, by Samuel Goodrich.
Published 1855, Boston by George C. Rand, Wm. J. Reynolds and Company.
328 pages. Text in English.
Of particular note for the chapters near the end which discusses superstitions, fairies, witchcraft, ghosts, spectral illusions, manias and drugs (!).
Publisher's cloth binding, gilt pictorial spine decorations & title lettering, embossed cover designs.
Item is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding rubbed and age worn, spine ends chipped, evidence of old damp staining wrinkle to rear of text block and paste down, yet still remains overall attractive as an object with a nice gilt pictorial spine of a man in a turban set within floral vegetation.
Text block paper is clean, internally well preserved, little staining or soiling, any flaws of a minor type unworthy of specific mention.
Still attractive on the shelf. Item displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
