Sights & Scenes of the World: A Series of Magnificent Photographic Views Embracing the World of Nature and Art, by George Ogilvie.
Published 1893, Chicago by W.B. Conkey.
21 parts (fascicules), each issued individually over time by subscription. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout.
Publisher's pictorial paper wrappers, oblong format. Inherently fragile size and format. A rare run.
A couple issues lack their front covers but seem to have rear covers. Also included are a couple supplemental covers (same paper, era & publisher but seemingly for a different set), plus what appear to be some supplemental pages which may complete an issue. Collation is a tangled and tedious nightmare, so lot is offered as found, as is, and priced low accordingly to reflect the unknown aspects of completeness. Lot may not be 100% complete, but it's close, and with many interesting and often fun images of a long vanished world.
Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Set is not new or in "new" condition.
Many covers detached, edges chipped, cover paper brittle due to paper stock used, photo plate paper sound and much sturdier and less acidic, set remains overall attractive as an object given how rare it is.
Photo paper is gently toned, internally still mostly clean.
Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail showing how this antique set survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books. Flaws seen and described have been taken into account.
