The Young Mathematician's Guide: Being a Plain and Easy Introduction To The Mathematicks in Five Parts, by John Ward.
Published 1740, London by S. Birt, C. Hitch, E. Wicksteed, J. Hodges, and E. Comyns.
480 pages. Text in English. Lacks a frontis portrait but contains a 23 page "Supplement Not in any of the former Editions of this book containing the History of logarithms...axioms and Doctrine of Plane Trigonometry.".

A quite early math book in English which has a comprehensive supplement at the end which did not appear in any edition prior to this one, so this book is the first edition with it.

Period full leather binding, raised bands, embossed "Cambridge style" period decoratively blind stamped covers.

Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.

Front cover all but detached.

Binding heavily and well age worn, leather rubbed but still supple, spine leather heavily chipped exposing under binding, remains overall attractive as an object.

Text block paper is well toned, moderate to heavy scattered age stains, spotting, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.

Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a unique age patina, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.

Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this scarce mid-18th century book survives. A very early appearance of modern plane trigonometry in a text book.

Book Measures c. 8" H x 5" W.
