Ancient Europe Thrace Sarmatia Galliae c.1711 decorative vignette antique map

Issued 1711, Amsterdam / London(?), likely for Cluverius.

Charming original early 18th century engraved miniature map with lovely hand color. Pictorial vignette title bottom right features allegorical figures and a bull who carries Europa away in the ancient myth.

At top let edge sits the coastline of Greenland, Iceland below it. The unnamed island west of Iceland is the mythical island of Frisia.

Map has excellent old paper repairs on reverse bottom (see pic) in two spots along the distance graticule area to back these short minor slivers of paper loss. The only loss to engraved area along bottom is to the neat line and graticule borders below where the map of the continent begins. A couple very small manuscript reinstatements to these backed areas of loss.

Map looks great and displays very well.

Map paper overall clean, minor spotting and signs of time, pictures capture condition of map well, displays a unique and pleasing overall age patina.

Sheet measures c.9 7/8" H x 12" W.
