(Oceania, Pacific Ocean, South Pacific, Australia, New Holland, New Zelanamd, New Caledonia, Friendly Islands, Society Islands, Antarctic Circle).
Issued c. 1780-90, London. Engraved by Page, so apparently must date before 1797 (see Tooley).
Uncommon late 18th century engraved map with attractive hand color.
The southern coastline of Australia is still speculative and shows the island of van Diemen's Land attached to the continent.
Remains a nice looking example with a pleasing age patina. Any age flaws mostly minor and easy to overlook or forgive.
Original fold lines as issued as is uneven left blank margin (inset tab still present).
A scarce 18th century map.
Sheet Measures c. 10 1/2" H x 14 1/2" W.
Engraved Area Measures c. 8 1/2" H x 12 3/4" W.
