Issued c.1738-1772 Paris. Anonymous engraver. A map which was reissued over decades in the 18th century.

Charming little 18th century engraved world map with lovely full hand color.

Of note for how California is depicted as an island, with no sign of Alaska. Australia is only a partial unknown outline with van Diemens land only hinted at as a partial outline. Same with New Zealand, just a partial outline. Note the strong continental outline along the south polar regions, hinting at an undiscovered southern continent.

Original fold lines as issued.

Overall clean and attractive example, any age flaws are minor and don't detract visually.

Map still displays well and looks great, minor wrinkling or extraneous creasing as often seen on miniature folding maps of this era.
