die Stadt Callao

(Peru- South America)

Issued Frankfort, Germany, 1719 for A.M. Mallet.

Charming early 18th century copper engraved map, with pleasing full hand color. Charming miniature birds-eye view, a very early look of this city when it existed only within the fortified buttressed walls. Countless tiny individual house structures have been engraved. Numerous tall mast ships seen off the coast approaching.

The image has a near folk-art feel, a style unique to this historical era. Utterly unlike anything produced today and of modern aesthetic appeal for this reason.

Mostly clean and well preserved example, the image displays a fine patina.

Sheet measures c. 6" x 7 3/4".

Printed area measures c. 4 1/2" x 6".
