Lovely, uncommon, oversized mid-19th century engraved map. Beautiful original hand color heightened in outline. Decorative piano key border. Near monumental in scale for the era and commercial map production.
Map is uniformly age toned, a few small minor scattered light age spots or stains. Beautiful overall age patina and strong visual appeal despite any age flaws.
Three tiny insets bottom center of Hong Kong, Chu-san Island & island of Amoy. Formosa seen lower right above Luzon Philippines. Explanation key of Chinese Terminations (word meanings) lower left, beside the engraved note about the 5 ports then recently opened to commerce trade by the Treaty of 1842.
