Duchy of Savoy Northern Italy France Switzerland 1677 Du Val decorative map
Brian DiMambroLa Savoye.
(Old Maps, 17th Century Maps, Savoy, Lake Geneva, France, Switzerland).
Issued c. 1677, Paris by Pierre Du Val (1618-1683).
Rare 17th century folio sheet antique map with original outline hand color.
Large pictorial cartouche top left includes two native mountain men in local dress, large crest top right.
Printed in the 17th century for a very rare folio atlas, this loose map offered exactly as acquired, rather poor condition.
In very poor condition. Damp stained across the bottom and along sides. A thin strip of newer linen tape neatly applied on back for reinforcing the centerfold. At middle centerfold are two small narrow "pulls", spots where the map has stuck to the facing paper and pulled the printed area away leaving a white blank spot behind.
However, despite the fairly poor physical condition, the map still has a noble character about it and could still be framed for display or added to a collection because of the scarcity factor.
Original fold line as issued.
Sheet measures c. 17 1/8" H x 23" W.
Printed area measures c. 15 1/2" H x 20 3/8" W.
