Town of Hingham, Plymouth County Mass.

(Old Maps, 19th Century Maps, Pictorial Maps, Bird's Eye View, Americana, United States, New England, Massachusetts, Hingham, City View).

Originally issued c.1885, United States. Drawn by A.F. Poole. Almost certainly issued c. 1950-70, but possibly earlier.

Likely an early to mid-20th century re-issue, so priced accordingly.

I honestly cannot be certain it's actually not a 19th century lithograph, which is extremely unusual and almost unheard of for old loose images given my 40+ year direct, up close daily exposure to and visual examination of endless, countless millions of sheets of old paper, but this one is a genuine mystery. My strong hunch is c. 1950-70.

It looks "right", but something about it gives me a sixth sense it might only be say 50-75 years old vs. c.140 years. The type and range of staining and time wear seen here would typically indicate 19th century, but it also might and could be 1950-70's (?), since that is now a long time ago.

Priced as if it's from the mid-20th century as opposed to 1885 (in which case it might be say $1500-$2500). The paper is watermarked: "A" beneath border ornamentations / Eagle A/ Trojan Bond/ Cotton Fibre (?).

Apparently lithographed pictorial bird's eye view map of this Massachusetts city, printed on hand made bond paper described above.

Numbered key identifies virtually all important buildings/locations, making this view outstanding and endless fun for anyone living within the area depicted. If this view were Dover, NH, where I am, I would keep and display it. Worthy of display no matter what the age, both era examples are equally scarce.

One of the buildings at center on Main street has been neatly colored yellow and circled in ink by someone in the past since it obviously had special meaning for them (likely the owner?).

Expected small light stains, small holes with tiny loss at some fold line intersections, some scattered pin prick holes in spots, clearly been handled, folded and unfolded, and so on. Offered as it survives, this is not a Fine example. Rare in any condition.

Old fold lines from someone folding it up ages ago.

Sheet measures c. 26" H x 34" W.

Printed area measures c. 24" H x 32" W.
