(Asia, Middle East, Ottoman Empire, Mesopotamia, Baghdad, Tigris, Euphrates, City Plan).
Issued 1661, Nuremburg by Dapper.
Uncommon and attractive mid 17th century copper engraved birds-eye city view. Nice large scale depiction capturing the city with early walls and plan.
Figures across the foreground, many more all around the old city walls. Many buildings shown, including numerous mosques, domes, minarets and vegetation.
Key at top right identifies seven specific features within the view, including the main mosque of the city, which is a large central domed structure (it's the largest building in the view, in fact) with long tall windows.
Nice looking example, pleasing age patina, some age toning and light browning as seen to sheet, minor old staining in blank margins, still fine in appearance and suitable for display.
Original center fold as issued.
Sheet measures c. 12 1/2" H x 15 3/4" W.
Engraved area measures c. 10 1/2" H x 13" W.
