North America Early United States Quivira River of West 1802 Kirkwood scarce mapBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
North America from the best Authorities.
(North America, Canada, United States, Mexico, New Spain, Florida, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Islands, Alaska).
Issued 1802, London by Kirkwood & Sons for Guthrie.
Fine engraved map, with attractive hand color.
Most of the interior is empty/ blank, aside from vast regions simply labelled "Quivira & Teguayo", two mythical Kingdoms. River of the West is named and shown cutting across to almost meet the Heads of the Mississippi River. Florida still joined as east/ west, Georgia still extends to Mississippi, no mention of San Francisco, just Francis Drake.
Remains a nice looking example with a pleasing age patina. Couple tiny wormholes backed with paper and almost invisible to the eye when viewing the map. Any age flaws mostly minor and easy to overlook or forgive.
Original fold lines as issued.
Sheet Measures c. 8 1/4" H x 10 1/4" W.
