Western U.S. California Utah Nevada Arizona Railroads 1867 Johnson map
Brian DiMambroJohnson's California, Also Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona.
(Old Maps, 19th Century Maps, Americana, United States, Western U.S., California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Indian Tribes, Railroads).
Issued New York, 1864 (1867 state) by A.J. Johnson.
Lovely antique engraved and lithographed map with original hand color.
Nice decorative border unique to these printings (see Laurie Johnson Atlas Project).
Wonderfully detailed, displaying an impressive level of geographic and topographic detail, along with countless early cities and towns, many silver mines, Indian tribes, early military travel & official Gov. exploration routes, proposed railroad lines, etc. Arizona has only 4 counties, Prescott is capital.
Paper now uniformly well age-toned and approaching brittle, and must be handled carefully. Gentle overall signs of age, small dark stain at bottom centerfold area with old closure to short split, scattered light spotting, faint old damp staining to sheet, etc., but map remains visually attractive, mostly clean, and still very nice-looking.
Original fold line as issued.
Sheet measures c. 26" x 18"
Engraved area measures c. 22 1/2" x 16"
