Illustrated with 14 engraved plates of animals, birds, snakes, alligator, four oblong folding tables and a large engraved folding map at front. Plates include fine images of an alligator, rattlesnakes, a hooping crane, Baltimore oriole, porcupine, armadillo, etc.

Excellent commentary on southwestern United States, East and west Florida, Louisiana, New Spain, West Indies including Nevis, Bermuda, Jamaica, etc. Includes index lists of fish and insects.

1/4 leather binding, smooth spine, gilt title lettering, paper covered boards.

Volume 4 of a larger work. This volume complete unto itself and the volume with the most engraved plates.

Book and simple binding is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Binding is not new or in "new" condition, probably 100 years old or more.

Binding gently age worn, joints slightly scuffed with some splitting along the joint cloth, remains overall attractive as an object.

Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered age spotting, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.

Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
