Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
Geographical, Statistical and Historical map of Connecticut.
(New England states).
Issued c.1822, Philadelphia by Carey & Lea. Engraved by Young & Delleker.
Beautiful early 19th century engraved folio sheet state map, with original hand color. Surrounded by letterpress text describing a wide range of topics, including topography & terrain features, climate, population statistics, chief state manufacturing and commercial interests, education, government, key battles (indicated on the map with a flag) and a long historical overview of the state. Long well done tissue repairs using archival Japanese water-based paste to ends of centerfold. These old centerfold splits now almost invisible when viewing the map.
Light uniform paper age toning, original fold line, remaining clean - still a very pleasing visual example.
Sheet measures c. 17 1/2" x 22 1/4".
Printed area measures c. 16 3/4" x 20 1/2".
