The Harvard Lampoon.
Published 1900-1901, Cambridge by Harvard Lampoon.
228, 204 pages. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout.
A rare early long continuous run of this infamous illustrated humor periodical. This run retains all the original covers plus pictorial advertising sections for each issue.
A plethora of virtually unknown but often wonderful early cartoon images, many political humor, a high spot of wonderful early cartooning during the era known today as the Platinum Age and the early newspaper Funnies.
Much of the artwork is of a surprisingly near-professional level and many of the artists could easily have become full time illustrators on par with Outcault, George McManus, Johnny Gruelle, Opper, Gross, Fisher and others.
Early plain cloth binding, gilt title lettering. Early 20th century binding that looks its age.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding age worn, joints slightly scuffed, various signs of time and staining, remains sound, tight, and a pleasure to browse through.
Text block paper is gently toned, mostly clean, book still well preserved.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this antique book survives.
