Continuation de L'Histoire Generale Des Voyages ou Collection Nouvelle. Tome XVIII (vol. 18).
Published 1768, Paris by Rozet.
576 pages. Text in French. Illustrated throughout with 36 copper engraved folding maps, views and plates (several large folding).
Includes the desirable large map of Iceland which often sells for hundreds of dollars by itself.
Period full mottled calf binding, raised bands, gilt compartment decorations, gilt title lettering on contrasting red leather label, gilt ruled covers, gilt institutional label on front cover, marbled edges & end papers.
Book is over 250 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding age worn, leather rubbed but still supple, joints cracked and scuffed but covers still firmly attached, remains overall attractive as a mid-18th century hand made object. Old book plate to front paste down, gilt stamp at base of front cover.
Text block paper is gently toned, internally still clean, well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this uncommon mid-18th century travel plate book survives.
Book Measures c. 10 1/4" H x 8" W.
