Polichinelle des Champs Elysees.
Published c. 1860-70's, Paris by A. Capendu.
8 moving plates, all but one of which still functions. Text in French. Very similar to a Lothar Meggendorfer style moveable book.
Wonderful and rare moveable juvenile book of the 19th century. Produced in small numbers, expensive at the time and rare today.
Publisher's 1/4 cloth binding, paper covered boards, illustrated paper paste downs.
Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, board edges worn, corners rounded, remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently toned, light to moderate scattered age spotting, various short tears to paper, internally still well preserved, tight, sound for this type of item. Video captures condition far better than words.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail showing how this splendid and rare book survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books. Flaws seen and described have been taken into account.
Book Measures c. 14 1/4" H x 9 1/2" W.
