Original large engraved 1833-6 folding map by Colton & Burr with original outline hand color still present with book and loosely laid in. Map remains complete & clean, short edge tear top right, slight creasing, still nice looking example worthy of display.
Period full speckled calf leather binding, raised bands, gilt title lettering on contrasting leather title label, gilt ruled compartments, marbled edges and end papers. With early paper spine label at spine base and old book plate of former NE historical society (no other markings seen within). Early, likely original owners name to fly leaf & top of t.p.
Binding remains clean, tight, and sound, leather supple. Joints slightly scuffed, dried and with surface cracking, covers well attached. Binding remains sound, tight and solid.
Interior displays a pleasing ag patina, light to moderate age spotting throughout, Any age flaws are easy to overlook or forgive.
Book measures: 9" H X 5 3/4" W.
