Rare mid-19th century antique linen backed wall map with original hand color, with original turned wooded rollers.

A detailed, very scarce and early American geological wall map.

In typical Fair antiquarian condition, old visible damp-staining down right side as seen, slight discoloration and chipping of paper across the map at title level, a pronounced crease/ break to the map paper about 1/2 way down the map which has a series of inexplicable tiny pin holes across the top of it, various other signs of age typical to old wall maps, paper brittle but mostly clean overall, light minor age dustiness or light surface wear, small scattered spotting, staining or age soiling as seen, overall the map remains entirely attractive and acceptable-- map has been priced according to this condition as described.

Printed area measures c. 35 3/4" W x 34" H.

Marcou, Mapoteca Geologica Americana , 239- calling the map "Very Important" and marking a "second starting point in American Geology". However, this wall map version is not mentioned, only an implied paper version which accompanied the monumental 4 vol. set "Geology of New York" by Emmons, Hall, Mather and Vanuxem.
