Dean's Moveable Books: Old Woman and Her Silver Penny.
Published c. 1862, London by Dean & Son.
Text in English. Illustrated throughout with eight moveable illustrations.
Publisher's cloth binding, color lithographed pictorial paper over boards covers. With an 1862 gift inscription to front fly leaf.
All the moveable images work to some extend, a couple need some simple repairs, book appears to be 90-95% complete (one scene has the woman detached), it any pieces of images are missing it is not obvious on casual inspection.
This rare mid-19th century juvenile moveable book is approaching 150 years old and shows some typical signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition.
Binding gently age worn, spine cloth split, text block loosened within covers, the moveable pages all exposed on the rear (backing sheets for each are now all loose), allowing for ready repair to any moveable images with issues: remains overall attractive as an object.
Text block paper is gently toned, signs of handling and usage, internally still well preserved, tight, sound.
Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Please review photos for more detail showing how this antique book survives. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books. Flaws seen and described have been taken into account.
