Published 1885, Paris by Hachette.
1,033 pages. Text in French. Profusely illustrated throughout with 553 illustrations.
Thick, heavy, monumental book that was originally issued as part of a huge monumental set, but the contents for this region and era are complete and it stands alone.
Period 1/2 leather binding, raised bands, elaborate gilt floral compartment decorations, gilt title lettering, marbled covers and end papers. Binding remains clean, tight, and sound. Contains original owner's personal book plate. Any age flaws are easy to overlook or forgive.
Interior contents display a uniform age patina, with occasional light to moderate age spotting. Overall, a wonderful and monumental volume that retains a handsome shelf appearance.
Book measures: 11 1/4" H X 8" W.
