2 large quatro volumes, c.1,800+ pages. Complete with 83 engraved plates, which includes 32 maps [many folding] and 51 engraved views. Ornate frontises and allegorical title pages.
Splendid period full grained green morocco leather bindings, richly gilt decorated and ornamented, raised bands, elaborate and beautiful gilt decorations on spine and covers. Marbled end papers and text block edges.
Bindings remain tight, sound and with outstanding shelf appeal. Some intermittent offsetting and foxing, never offensive or severe. Any age flaws very easy to overlook or forgive, handsome, monumental, a superior and impressive set.
Essentially an early 19th century atlas of the world, supplemented by a profusion of nicely printed views of all parts, including Asia, Americas, Europe, India, Africa, etc. as well as extensive descriptive commentary of all locations.
Book measures: 10 3/4" H X 8 3/4" W.
