Issued August 1897, New York, by Harpers Weekly-
Great contemporary newspaper article and map.
Wonderful original antique offset/photo mechanical print. Printed in the late 19th century, the actual paper sheet as seen from what is now a very scarce periodical.
An utterly fascinating old artifact regarding this topic. The visual effect is one of a long past time, and from this perspective the uniquely printed sheet of paper is most appealing. The type of now long gone machinery used and the look created by it is visually quaint by modern standards.
In Good+ to near VG [or better] condition: sheet displays uniform age browning/ toning as typical, light scattered spotting or foxing, light edge wear, perhaps a soft crease across the center of the sheet, and could have small edge splits which have been carefully and almost invisibly repaired on verso; overall the main image remains clean and very attractive. Any minor defects may hopefully be clearly seen in the images.
Text on verso as issued-This is an original printed sheet from this scarce 19th century American periodical. Thus, this form is the only way this image can be acquired other than perhaps as a modern reprint- but who wants that when you can have the original?
A delightful late 19th century print any collector, dealer, or institution would be happy to possess. Perfect for gift-giving, display, collecting, etc. Sure to interest any active mind who enjoys seeing history visually represented.
Sheet measures c. 15 1/2" x 10" .
