Brian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & PrintsArizona Welcomes You! [Incredible Arizona].
(North America, United States, American Southwest, Arizona, Prescott, Yuma, Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tucson, Nogales, Grand Canyon, Lake Mead).
Issued c. 1940, Arizona. Map by George M. Avey, former Art Director of Arizona Highways magazine.
Scarce and famous mid 20th century humorous cartoon style four panel map.
Map folds out to form this small poster size, from within a folded magazine-format narrative cartoon brochure aimed at tourists. A native tribal man smoking a cigaretet on the cover.
Original fold lines, and then possibly issued folded again within an envelope for mailing to potential tourist visitors. Avey is famous for his cartoon maps and Arizona is his first major published one.
Well preserved, light wear along old fold lines, still a nice looking example with pleasing age patina. Entirely frameable, fold lines being as issued, map could be pressed flatter if desired.
Appears to be a variant slightly smaller issue of the one produced in August 1940 for inclusion as a supplement to the magazine.
Original fold lines as issued.
Sheet Measures c. 21 1/4" H x 16 1/2" W.
