Belfast Harbor, Maine.
Issued Washington, D.C., 1879 by U.S. Coast Survey.
Excellent example of this uncommon 19th century nautical coast chart. Stunningly detailed, with endless accurately rendered sounding depths, small islands, coastal outlines, bays, inlets, etc.
Lithographed, found here with outstanding full hand color, a superior visual example thus.
Printed on a much sturdier "onion-skin" or bond type paper, unlike most 19th century Government nautical charts which were printed on a thin tissue paper. As always found on these 1879 Government lithographed charts, a tiny pin-hole in each of the four corners (all but invisible) used by the lithographer to secure the sheet down for printing.
Original fold lines as issued. Map is clean and very pleasing, any darkening along fold-lines seen within the digital images is shadow only and do not exist on the map itself when it is opened flat.
Wonderful city plan in the center. Includes hundreds of individually buildings precisely rendered in outline.
Sheet measures c. 14" x 14 1/2".
